Akaer has been selected to manufacture the Forward Fuselage for the new D328eco™ regional turboprop by Deutsche Aircraft

Weßling/São José dos Campos, 11 March 2024 – Akaer, an aerospace and engineering company that is a leader in innovation, has been selected by German OEM Deutsche Aircraft to manufacture the forward fuselage of the D328eco, the sustainable 40-seater turboprop aircraft for the regional aviation market. Akaer will be responsible for the manufacturing of the forward fuselage, including industrialisation, tooling, prototype and related studies.

Collaboration and commitment

Akaer's agreement with Deutsche Aircraft is a significant achievement that strengthens its position in the global aerospace industry. Deutsche Aircraft has recognised Akaer's expertise in design engineering and the comprehensive assembly of the forward fuselage as decisive advantages. This premier Brazilian company is capable of designing and delivering large structural assemblies for the aerospace industry worldwide and Brazil has solidified its position as the third-largest aircraft manufacturer in the world.

"The D328eco signifies a major milestone in global aviation, heralding more sustainable and efficient flights. For Akaer, being a part of this significant project and playing a fundamental role in producing the forward fuselage is a source of great pride, further solidifying our position as a Tier 1 company," stated Cesar Silva, CEO of Akaer.

"The commitment and experience showcased by Akaer throughout this process was pivotal in our decision-making, Akaer is one of the key players in the Brazilian Aerospace industry which is why we are excited to collaborate on this project for the front fuselage which is a milestone in the D328eco programme," emphasised Dave Jackson, CEO of Deutsche Aircraft.

“This collaboration underscores the acknowledgment of Akaer's excellence and 32 years of experience in the aeronautical industry. The selection process was meticulous. We considered Akaer's commitment, customer focus and exemplary experience, which were instrumental in securing this significant project for the D328eco programme.” remarked Maximilan Fahr, Vice President Supply Chain of Deutsche Aircraft.

A booming aviation market

Brazil has the 5th largest airspace in the world and is currently focused on the expansion of regional aviation. Around US$ 600 million has been invested to connect the vast community by air and this collaboration will support Brazil’s initiatives to enhance its expertise and capacity in both regional aviation and aerospace manufacturing.

With the 2nd largest general aviation fleet in the world, Brazil has the potential to upgrade with the multi-role configuration of the D328eco, which can cater to its executive, aeromedical and agricultural aviation demands. The turboprop market share in Brazil has grown by 344% over the last 10 years.

The remarkable versatility of the D328eco multi role configuration allows it to be tailored for diverse operations, including passenger transport, rescue missions, military operations, forest firefighting and aeromedical services. Its exceptional flight characteristics and adaptability enable it to access destinations with short, unpaved runways, even in the most challenging weather conditions.

The D328eco boasts the lowest fuel consumption and pollutant emissions in the industry. It will be fully compatible with 100% SAF-PtL and other fuel blends, which means the aircraft will offer customers maximum flexibility when it comes to energy supply options.

The first delivery of the D328eco forward fuselage is scheduled for the end of 2025 and will initially be produced in Brazil at the facilities in São José dos Campos.

About the data:
- Source: Cirium
- Schedules data: full year 2019 vs. 2020 – excludes non-scheduled flying
- In-service data:
- For 2019 the data is dated April while for 2020 it’s dated October. We wanted to compare “shoulder month” to shoulder month, however April 2020 wouldn’t have captured the immediate impact of Coronavirus as our dataset classes aircraft as in storage after 3 months of inactivity.

DA Latest News in a Nutshell

New talent appointed to strengthen the Deutsche aircraft programme

As part of its continued support of Deutsche Aircraft’s D328eco aircraft programme, 328 Support Services GmbH recently appointed a panel of “talent experts” to further strengthen the overall team and ensure strong management structure and processes are in place across the D328eco development programme. Today we focus on the Engineering & Programme departments.

On the programme side, Mr. Peter Spyrka has been appointed Director of Programmes. Peter brings over 20 years’ experience in the global aerospace industry with engineering & development works on both civil and military aircraft programmes. Prior to joining Deutsche Aircraft, Peter worked at Airbus, leading the Hybrid Electric Propulsion System development programme for demonstrator projects. He also worked for Fairchild Dornier back in the late 1990’s.

In Engineering, Mr. Jean-Damien Mazeau has been appointed as our new Head of Propulsion Systems. Jean-Damien also brings more than 20 years’ aeronautical experience to Deutsche Aircraft, having built most of his career at Airbus. He was most recently involved with the A320neo’s entry into service, in charge of propulsion system’s global technical Support.

Last but not least, Dr. Stefan Brunner brings more than two decades of expertise and experience to his position as Head of Airframe. Throughout his career, Stefan spent more than 17 years working directly for the Airbus group where he was heavily involved with a wide variety of major engineering programmes on both commercial aviation and defence & space programmes. In his new role, Stefan will be responsible for design, analysis and modification of the D328eco airframe’s primary structure (Fuselage, Fairings, Wing, Empennage), as well as establishing new processes and procedures to complete aircraft development. Finally, he is responsible for ensuring compliance with the European Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulations.

In addition to Peter, Jean Damien and Stefan, we are also proud to announce that we have been busy hiring new talent from not only within Germany, but from all over the world. Coming from a variety of companies within the aerospace industry, we look forward to utilising our new team members’ skills and expertise to achieve the entry into service scheduled for 2025.

All are great assets to the current Engineering & Programme team and will, without a doubt, help support Deutsche Aircraft’s development programme over the coming years.
