Quarterly Newsletter, Q3/2022

Welcome to the latest edition of the Deutsche Aircraft Quarterly Newsletter!

It is a hugely exciting time for us here at Deutsche Aircraft: since I wrote to you last, we successfully showcased our D328ecoTM at air shows both in Germany and in the UK: in June at ILA Berlin Air Show in June, and in July at Farnborough International Air Show.

At ILA, the Management team and I met German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to provide him an update on our LuFo projects the German Federal Government is supporting and on Deutsche Aircraft and our D328eco Programme generally. We were pleased that the Prime Minister of Saxony Michael Kretschmar, as well as Anna Christmann, the Federal Government Coordinator of German Aerospace Policy, also visited us at ILA, showing great interest in our ongoing projects.

Managing Director of Deutsche Aircraft Dave Jackson shakes hands with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in front of the D328 at ILA Berlin 2022.

Deutsche Aircraft is continually growing, and I am very pleased announce the appointment of Nico Neumann as Chief Operating Officer as well as Joint Managing Director of Deutsche Aircraft. Nico began his career at 328SSG in 2007 and has held a range of operational positions within the company, most recently as the VP Operations and Programme to support the further growth and strategic setup of the company.

In August Anastasija Visnakova, formerly at De Havilland, joined the Management Team as the new VP Sales &; Marketing: she will be responsible for all aircraft sales, including the D328eco, the legacy D328® aircraft, as well as overseeing marketing activities, overall communications and customer experience.

In addition to these appointments we are pleased to welcome over seventy employees who joined the company in the last four months.

In the last quarter Deutsche Aircraft has selected key suppliers for the engine, wing spar box, landing gear, aerostructures and the design of the materials supply chain.

We are very happy to have Pratt&Whitney on board who developed the PW127XT-S engine to power the D328eco regional turboprop. This engine, as part of the XT series, sets a new benchmark in regional aviation and will deliver a significant improvement in operating costs and sustainability.

With our supplier HEGGEMANN AG we have jointly created a digital twin as well as a physical prototype of the wing spar box, proving that the future production of the spar box is possible in an efficient way that saves material.

HEGGEMANN is also our supplier for the landing gear, now ready to go into production, which will be compatible with the entire Dornier 328 (D328®) aircraft family, retrofittable to both turboprop and jet of the existing in-service fleet, as well as the new D328eco aircraft.

Aciturri, with whom we signed the contract at Farnborough, will manufacture the fairings, landing gear doors and flight control movables, using composite and metallic technologies. Deutsche Aircraft and Aciturri are working closely together towards the industrialisation of the programme, aiming to deliver the first parts for the prototype of the aircraft (T1) in the last quarter of 2024.

thyssenkrupp Aerospace is our strategic partner to design the materials supply chain for the D328eco: thyssenkrupp Aerospace’s supply chain experts will consult Deutsche Aircraft to develop the basis for a control tower solution that will ensure an optimal coordination of supply flows.

About the data:
- Source: Cirium
- Schedules data: full year 2019 vs. 2020 – excludes non-scheduled flying
- In-service data:
- For 2019 the data is dated April while for 2020 it’s dated October. We wanted to compare “shoulder month” to shoulder month, however April 2020 wouldn’t have captured the immediate impact of Coronavirus as our dataset classes aircraft as in storage after 3 months of inactivity.

DA Latest News in a Nutshell

New talent appointed to strengthen the Deutsche aircraft programme

As part of its continued support of Deutsche Aircraft’s D328eco aircraft programme, 328 Support Services GmbH recently appointed a panel of “talent experts” to further strengthen the overall team and ensure strong management structure and processes are in place across the D328eco development programme. Today we focus on the Engineering & Programme departments.

On the programme side, Mr. Peter Spyrka has been appointed Director of Programmes. Peter brings over 20 years’ experience in the global aerospace industry with engineering & development works on both civil and military aircraft programmes. Prior to joining Deutsche Aircraft, Peter worked at Airbus, leading the Hybrid Electric Propulsion System development programme for demonstrator projects. He also worked for Fairchild Dornier back in the late 1990’s.

In Engineering, Mr. Jean-Damien Mazeau has been appointed as our new Head of Propulsion Systems. Jean-Damien also brings more than 20 years’ aeronautical experience to Deutsche Aircraft, having built most of his career at Airbus. He was most recently involved with the A320neo’s entry into service, in charge of propulsion system’s global technical Support.

Last but not least, Dr. Stefan Brunner brings more than two decades of expertise and experience to his position as Head of Airframe. Throughout his career, Stefan spent more than 17 years working directly for the Airbus group where he was heavily involved with a wide variety of major engineering programmes on both commercial aviation and defence & space programmes. In his new role, Stefan will be responsible for design, analysis and modification of the D328eco airframe’s primary structure (Fuselage, Fairings, Wing, Empennage), as well as establishing new processes and procedures to complete aircraft development. Finally, he is responsible for ensuring compliance with the European Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulations.

In addition to Peter, Jean Damien and Stefan, we are also proud to announce that we have been busy hiring new talent from not only within Germany, but from all over the world. Coming from a variety of companies within the aerospace industry, we look forward to utilising our new team members’ skills and expertise to achieve the entry into service scheduled for 2025.

All are great assets to the current Engineering & Programme team and will, without a doubt, help support Deutsche Aircraft’s development programme over the coming years.
